Description
PFP explores professional roles and responsibilities as these roles relate to the missions of business, government, and non-profit organizations. Organizations represented include multinational corporations, small business, consulting firms, federal agencies, start-up companies, entrepreneurial activities, federal agencies, and non-profit organizations.
- Tuesdays, 1:30 to 3:20 p.m.
- 2 credit hour course
- Pass/No Pass grading system.

Student Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to do the following after the completion of the course:
- Assemble a professional portfolio, which includes job search documents (CV, resume, cover letter, research statement, and leadership philosophy).
- Generate strategies for success in the career advancement and performance review processes.
- Construct an institutional profile and relate your career goals and skill sets with institutional missions and values, company culture, and expected job functions.
- Construct a career strategic plan for developing, enhancing and maintaining skill sets and competencies.
- Develop an understanding of professional culture, practices, and environments.
Program Components
A sample syllabus, including speaker list and activities, is available on the Professional Development Community. Three basic elements compose the course:
- Classroom discussion and networking with professionals
- Online review and discussion of professional cultures and practices
- development and articulation of skills and Portfolio construction and critique
