Mission of the Organization

The purpose of the PULSe GSO is to bring the PULSe student body together; to promote academic and social communication among all PULSe students; to allow interaction with the PULSe administration and faculty members; and to provide a forum in which PULSe students can voice their concerns and expectations.

GSO Events

Several key activities are planned by the GSO each year. This includes social activities, such as, summer picnic, football tailgating, ice skating, bowling, Super Bowl Party, and mini-Olympics; professional activities, such as, the student seminar series and the alternative career seminars; and fundraising efforts, such as, canned food drives and Relay for Life.

The GSO also has several key initiatives that it supports:

Diversity Network
This group serves as a resource for all areas of diversity (cultural, ethnic, identity, etc.) represented in our student body. The chair's of this organization serve as liaisons between the students and faculty and administration regarding diversity matters.

Peer Mentoring
This group provides a mentoring program for our incoming students. This program strives to ensure that each new student has a personal student contact who is available to answer questions and provide assistance as the new students adjust to graduate school.

Science in Schools
This group provides science outreach by making site visits to area K-12 schools with a primary focus on rural and city environments.

GSO Officers 2009-2010

	President Rachel Jarrard : Rachel is a fourth year student in PULSe. She is in the Integrative Neuroscience Training Group (TG) in Dr. Hockerman's lab in the Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology Department (MCMP). Rachel will be continuing as the GSO President. She enjoys being part of a team which organizes and plans professional and social events for other PULSe students. She also appreciates the opportunity to serve as a voice for fellow students by highlighting student concerns and implementing student ideas.
	Vice President Chelsey Dankenbring : Chelsey is in Dr. Luo's lab in the Biological Sciences Department. She is in the Microbiology TG. Chelsey wants to be more involved in the PULSe to continue to push the program forward. She has already contributed significantly to the Science in Schools outreach program and will serve as co-chair of this year's Science in Schools Committee and the Peer Mentoring Committee.
	Secretary Shuai (Edison) Yu : Shuai (aka Edison) is in Dr. Geahlen's lab in the MCMP Department in the Molecular Signaling and Cancer Biology TG. Edison likes to communicate and hopes as a GSO officer he can represent the international student body.
	Treasurer Aki Uchida : Aki started the PULSe program in 2007. She is in the Membrane Biology TG in Dr. Buhman's lab in the Foods and Nutrition Department. Aki did double-duty last year and served as the GSO's secretary and treasurer. She has agreed to continue as the treasurer.
	Activities Coordinator Judith Ronau : Judy began in PULSe in 2006. She is in the Chemical Biology TG in Dr. Abu-Omar's lab in the Chemistry Department. Judy will continue as the activities coordinator. Over the past year, she has played a key role in planning several events, including a canned food drive, Relay for Life, and the annual Super Bowl party. She has plans for new events as well as expanding successful past events.
	PULSe Purdue Graduate Student Government (PGSG) Representative Reazur Rahman : Reazur is a 2005 PULSe student in the Biomolecular Structure and Biophysics TG in Dr. Gribskov's lab in the Biological Sciences Department. He will continue in this role as PULSe's PGSG representative.
