Chromatin and Regulation of Gene Expression

Current Research Interests:

Our research deals with the mechanisms that are responsible for the control of transcription and replication in eukaryotes and their viruses. Four related areas are being investigated: (1) the nature of higher-order DNA structures in genome control regions (2) the function of these structures in the control of transcription and replication (3)the structure of DNA the can position nucleosomes at single sites and (4) the effects of antitumor drugs and carcinogens on chromosome and DNA structures in order to relate these features to the cancer problem. Our ultimate goals are to describe new languages in DNA that are based on structure and to determine the function of unusual DNA structures in the control of genomic events.
