Applying to the Purdue University Interdisciplinary LifeScience Ph.D. program (PULSe):

Applications to PULSe should besubmitted through the Graduate School and will be considered by thePULSe Admissions Committee, which consists of representatives from allPULSe Training Groups. Whenapplying, please note that entry into PULSe is for the fall semesteronly.

Deadline: February 1st

Application mustinclude:

  • Electronic Application

    (After clicking on the ElectronicApplication link above, click on Application for Admission. Then,create an account to begin applying to PULSe. Be sure to choose LifeScience Interdisciplinary Program as the
    primary program ofinterest.)

  • PULSe ApplicationSupplement (found within the electronicapplication)

  • Statement ofpurpose

    (In this 300-500word essay, you may wish to discuss your professional plans, anyspecial circumstances applicable to your background, your researchexperience, abilities, awards, achievements, and/or scholarlypublications. Also, please be sure to specify the PULSe TrainingGroups that interestyou.)

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation(GSForm 3)
  • Official transcripts (GSForm 5)
  • GRE General Test results
  • International degree-seeking applicants whosenative language is not English are required to submit Test of Englishas a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language TestingSystem (IELTS) scores. For more information on TOEFL and IELTS, clickhere.
  • International degree-seeking applicants arerequired to submit a copy of their earned degrees in bothEnglish and their native language.
  • C.V. or resumérecommended, but not required.

Additional information:

  • Official test scores (GRE, TOEFL, andIELTS) must be sent to institution code 1631; no department code isnecessary. Photocopied test scores are NOTaccepted.
  • While publications are not a requirementfor admission to PULSe, if you have publications, be sure to provide afull citation for each one.

To check the status of yourapplication:

To receive full consideration, applications shouldbe received by February 1. Applications will be reviewedbeginning in December. A number of qualified applicants will be invitedto campus to learn more about the program.




Training Groups are topic-oriented research groups consisting of faculty from multiple departments. Training groups are an administrative home for PULSe students, a student choice that impacts curriculum and research training activities.
